Individual berths have launched for this year’s Knox-Johnston Cup. Taking place on the weekend of 27-29 September 2024, this flagship event is jam packed with fun and competitive racing on the Solent and now there is the opportunity to book a solo place and be part of a team.

Hosted in honour of Sir Robin, Clipper Race founder and first ever person to sail solo, non-stop around the world, the challenge is open to anyone over the age of 18, regardless of sailing experience.

The event, which showcases the fun and social side of yacht racing, offers the chance to meet like-minded people, try something new if you’ve never sailed or raced before, and be a part of the amazing Clipper Ventures community.

With an individual booking, you’ll be joining a team of up to 12 people as you take on the 42 nautical mile course around the Isle of Wight. On board a Clipper Race yacht, each team is led by an experienced Skipper, First and Second Mate. The professional sailing team is made up of passionate, enthusiastic instructors, many who have competed in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race or are part of the Clipper Race Training team.

Charlie Warhurst, a Clipper 2023-24 Race First Mate will be skippering a team on this year’s Knox-Johnston Cup. Charlie said: “The Knox-Johnston Cup is an amazing opportunity for people from all sailing backgrounds to get involved with some friendly and competitive racing with like-minded people. The Isle of Wight loop is a classic, with tricks and tactical decisions all the way round. With many of us Skippers and Mates having raced against each other before – you know the competition is never too far away!”

ITINERARY

Friday 27 September
Option to join your team at Clipper Events’ HQ in Gosport for prep and registration.*

Saturday 28 September – preparation, training, celebration!
Head out with your team for a full day of training on the water, before docking in Cowes, Isle of Wight. A pre-race briefing is followed by the KJ Cup Social.

Sunday 29 September- Race Day
The Knox-Johnston Cup starts off the coast of Cowes and heads anti-clockwise, finishing at Bembridge. The 42 nautical mile long course, which is split into three legs, isn’t just about claiming line honours but also tactically accumulating extra points that can sway the overall podium standings. After the race, there will be a Prizegiving celebration back in Gosport.
