Race Overview

JOIN CLIPPER EVENTS FOR THE ICONIC ROUND THE ISLAND RACE 2025

The annual Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is a one day yacht race around the Isle of Wight. The race regularly attracts more than 1,400 boats and around 15,000 sailors of all levels of ability, making it one of the largest yacht races in the world and one of the biggest mass participation sports events in the UK. This is a bucket list race for any sailor.

For Round the Island Race 2025, Clipper Events will be entering up to five Clipper 68 race yachts that will compete in their own class, racing around this iconic 50 nautical mile course. Open to sailors of all abilities, the ‘Race for All’ ethos of this event means that, regardless of your experience, you can join us as crew on board these impressive yachts under the guidance of our professional sailing staff.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Taking place between Friday 6 June – Sunday 8 June 2025, your Clipper Events experience starts on the Friday morning when you arrive at our HQ in Gosport. Following check-in, you will head down to your designated Clipper 68 race yacht where you will meet your crew before receiving a detailed safety brief and getting familiar with the boat. After slipping lines, you will head out into the Solent for a day of training before overnighting in Cowes to soak up the pre-race atmosphere.

Saturday is race day so it’s an early breakfast on board before heading out to the start line off the Royal Yacht Squadron. With hundreds of boats on the water preparing for their starts, the Solent is a hive of activity with the pre-start being a spectacle in itself! But, once you cross that line, it’s all down to you and your fellow crew members as you navigate your way along the Solent towards the iconic landmark known as ‘The Needles’. This race has been known to offer a variety of conditions over the years but you can expect the race to last anywhere from 7-10 hours depending on conditions.

The current record for a Clipper yacht (68 or 70) was set in the 2024 race on board Clipper 68 ‘CV11’ with an elapsed time of 06:42.57.

Following completion of the race, we’ll head back into Cowes where you can enjoy the post-race festivities along the waterfront at your leisure. After a well-earned overnight rest on-board, we will motor back to Gosport on Sunday morning where you will disembark around lunch time.
